Virtual Belly Dance Show!

Hello Dancers,

I’ve got some exciting performance news today. I’m thrilled to be part of virtual belly dance show premiering this weekend that celebrates the belly dance scene as it developed in the United States. This style is referred to today as ‘American Cabaret’ or AmCab for short, hence the name if the show, It’s AmCab Baby!

Both my mother and my aunt were professional belly dancers in the Bay Area during this period, and so I grew up loving it and am absolutely thrilled to be part of the show.

For the virtual show I chose a costume skirt that was made for me in the 1990s by Anna of Universal Imports, the shop where my mom bought many of her costuming supplies in the 1970s! I loved going there when I was little.

There are many gorgeous dancers in the show to celebrate this era, including Julia, the dancer featured on the cover of this classic album by John Bilezikjian. They are both legends of American belly dance and Julia will be dancing to the late John’s music for her from this album in her performance.

Dance With Me Practice Video

Sorry I’m a day late, but I’ve got a new practice video for you!

Today’s focus is traveling movements with hip accents. The video starts with a slow, in-place section where we practice our figure 8s, undulations and hip circles.

As always, this video is an improvisation so it also gives you a feeling for responding naturally to the music.

Email readers can view the video here.

New Beginning Belly Dance Practice Video - Hip Circles!

I’m so excited to have a new “Dance With Me Video” for you to practice with. This is a short two minute, beginner level improvisation which focuses on hip circles.

Email readers can see the video here.

This is the third video I’ve made in my Dance With Me series. The full playlist is here. They are all quick, you can do them in any order and/or repeat if you want to dance longer. These are an excellent way to practice basic moves while getting the hang of improvisation!

Please let me know if there are any movements or topics you’d like to see in a future Dance With Me video. And be sure to sign up for my monthly Newsletter to stay up-to-date on classes, shows and more educational videos.

Happy Dancing!
